Question

What are the three components of agency according to Martin Seligman?

Answered from How to Make a Difference: Part 2 · Hidden Brain · 2026-09-28

Martin Seligman says agency has three parts. Optimism is the belief you can succeed in the future. Efficacy is the belief you can succeed at a specific task right now. Imagination, or innovation, is the range of future scenarios you can picture yourself achieving. He says science knows a lot about raising optimism, a fair amount about efficacy, and the least about imagination.
