Question

Why does Brian Attwell say standards fall over time at every company?

Answered from Atoms CTO: What He Learned Working At Amazon and Google | Brian Attwell · Ryan Peterman · 2026-10-30

Brian Attwell argued that raising a standard takes a lot of energy while lowering it takes very little, because few people complain when asked to do less. With that kind of entropy in a system, he said, standards keep sliding until the company dies or some trauma forces them back up. He pointed to Alphabet treating AI as an existential threat, which he said means the DeepMind team is now working hard.
