Why did Sal Frelick choose baseball over playing football at Boston College?

Sal Frelick committed to Boston College for baseball as a high school sophomore and later got a football offer from BC as well. His baseball coach told him a football scholarship would make football his first priority, and that he could play professional baseball. When no other school offered him for baseball, he chose baseball alone. Frelick said his baseball coach, not he, broke the news to football coach Steve Addazio.

• Frelick played quarterback in a spread, run-first offense under high school coaches who had played at UNH under Chip Kelly.
• Frelick also played hockey through high school and did not want to give up any sport.
• Frelick said he only believed he would be drafted late in his junior year at BC, after a sophomore season cut short by Covid.
