Question

What does Chris Williamson mean by wealth is reality minus expectations?

Answered from Expelled, Arrested & Somehow Winning At Life - James Smith - #1170 · Modern Wisdom · 2026-10-31

Chris Williamson told James Smith that you are wealthy when your life outperforms what you expect from it, and poor when it falls short, whatever your bank balance. By that measure, he said, many billionaires are broke. Williamson separated wanting more, which is healthy, from expecting it, and blamed social media for widening the group people compare themselves against. He paired it with Joe Hudson's line that lasting confidence comes from knowing your worth is not tied to performance.
