Why does Rod Dreher say MAGA is over after the 2026 midterms?

Answered from Is MAGA dead? · Today, Explained · 2026-11-05

Rod Dreher told Today, Explained that the 2026 midterms were a referendum on Donald Trump and that Trump failed it. In his view MAGA had some good ideas and was right to sweep away the old Republican establishment, but it could not deliver good government, and no amount of charisma makes up for that. Because MAGA is inseparable from Trump, Dreher says, it cannot outlive him as a movement.
