Question

Why did some women in Juarez support Diana the Hunter, per Yuri Herrera on This American Life?

Answered from 506: Secret Identity · This American Life · 2026-10-25

Most women Yuri Herrera approached in Juarez refused to talk, but Laura, a 25-year-old who was pregnant, said she would congratulate the shooter. Her support came from experience: her 20-year-old sister Maria Alejandra was attacked at home by a neighbor, reported it against Laura's advice, and says police questioned her as if she had invented it. Herrera links that distrust to a 2001 case in which bus driver Victor Garcia Uribe was tortured into confessing to murders of women, convicted, and freed in 2005.
