Answered from How To Make Better Decisions (with way less uncertainty) - Joe Hudson - #1171 · Modern Wisdom · 2026-11-02
Joe Hudson, married for 27 years, said that in hard stretches he was trying to keep his wife out of fear of losing her and abandoning his own principles to do it. The couple developed a practice of mourning the marriage: assuming it is already lost and feeling the whole aftermath, including loneliness and what comes next. Once the fear passes, each shows up as who they are and they work out whether and how to stay together. He compared it to Stoic, samurai and Tibetan practices of contemplating death.
