Question

What happened with the fake nuclear alerts sent to phones in Ukraine and Russia in November 2026?

Answered from Ukraine and Russia hit by fake emergency alerts · Global News Podcast · 2026-11-02

On the night of 1 November 2026, just before 11pm Kyiv time, Ukraine's phone app for drone and missile warnings sent false alerts of nuclear radiation, chemical attacks and urban fighting in Kyiv. They stayed up for more than an hour before all-clear messages, and Ukraine's Air Force called it a cyber attack with no real threat. Within hours Russia's emergencies ministry said its own warning app had also been fed false information. The BBC's Dan Johnson said it was unclear whether the two hacks were linked.
