Question

How does Steve Huynh suggest uncomfortable engineers start making their work visible?

Answered from The Visibility Habit That Got Me To Principal Engineer · A Life Engineered · 2026-10-30

Steve Huynh suggests starting by promoting other people: call out a teammate's contribution in a public channel, recognize good work in a meeting, or message a colleague's manager to say they came through. He says it takes about 30 seconds, nobody finds it annoying, and it shows visibility is not the self-serving thing people imagine. After that, include your own part, for example crediting a teammate's testing alongside the integration work you contributed.
